I’m not sure about you, but I remember playing games on one platform and there being no way to pull in friends on other systems. Thankfully, those times are long gone, with games like Fortnite helping bring everyone together. That means whether you’re on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Switch, or even mobile, there’s a good chance you can play with your friends, and that helps keep player numbers healthier for developers, too.

Not every game arrives with cross-platform multiplayer, though, while some have seen it patched in after launch. There’s also a worry, particularly in shooters, that PC gamers will have an advantage. For example, Battlefield 6 lets you play on PlayStation 5 with other players on Xbox, but turning on cross-play also means you get PC gamers, too, and they’re usually much more precise.

Cross-progression has also become more common, letting you log into a game on one platform and pick up where you left off on another. Still, it’s not guaranteed: You can play Monster Hunter Wilds on your Xbox Series X with other players on PS5, but if you start the game yourself on Sony’s system, you’ll have to start right from the beginning.

Developers and publishers are more aware than ever that gamers want to play with friends wherever they are, and as a result, games are being announced with cross-platform play in mind. Here are some slated for 2026 that we know of so far.
