This week during the Gamescom gaming trade show in Germany, Logitech introduced a new gaming mouse designed for eSports “athletes” called the Logitech G Pro Gaming Mouse. This new peripheral for PC gamers can be pre-ordered now direct from Logitech, packed with an advanced optical sensor, onboard memory, and a lightweight and durable form factor. The device is slated to land in the U.S. and Europe sometime this month.
According to Logitech, the new mouse was inspired by its G100 and G100s models made popular by eSports players. The specifications show that the upcoming mouse has a DPI ranging from 200 to 12,000 thanks to the peripheral’s PixArt PMW3366 optical sensor. This sensor has a maximum acceleration of around 40G and a maximum speed of around 300 inches per second. Additionally, LG states that this sensor has zero smoothing, filtering, or acceleration across its entire DPI range.
As for the buttons, there are six that can be programmed through the company’s free Logitech Gaming software. Although these buttons come with out-of-the-box preset programming, PC gamers can use this tool to bind any preferred command to the device. There’s onboard memory, too, so that users can take their custom settings wherever they go, such as connecting the device to a different system. The two main buttons have switches with a lifespan of over 20 million clicks.
“The metal spring button tensioning system in the Logitech G Pro Gaming Mouse enhances the consistency of the left and right mouse buttons and reduces the force required to click,” Logitech reports. “This helps deliver crisp, reliable click performance for your highest level of competition.”
Other features thrown into this new PC gaming mouse include an illuminated G Pro logo and wraparound edge that supports up to 16.8 million colors, which can be customized through Logitech’s desktop software and even synchronized with other connected Logitech products. It’s also packed with a 32-bit ARM-based processor along with a USB report rate of 1,000Hz (1ms) and a 16-bits-per-axis USB data format.
According to Logitech, the top of mouse includes a special coating to improve durability and grip. The company optimized the new peripheral for both durability and comfort, with a reduced weight so that PC gamers have more control over the device’s movement. The mouse feet are also tested to over 250km of use, causing very little dynamic and static friction on the desktop.
“The benefit of working with eSports players is that they tell us what they like, and more importantly, what they don’t like,” said Ujesh Desai, vice president and general manager of gaming at Logitech. “Our new Logitech G Pro Gaming Mouse takes what eSports pros loved about the G100s and G303 and combines it into a mouse that we’re confident will meet their standards.”
The new Logitech G Pro Gaming Mouse can be pre-ordered now for $70. An exact ship date is unknown for now, but the device will be provided in Europe sometime this month for 80 euros.
