NFL’s Marshawn Lynch joins Digital Trends Live to raise awareness for his nonprofit

PORTLAND, Oregon, December 10, 2018 — NFL running back Marshawn Lynch is coming to Digital Trends Live for a special Thursday morning segment. Coming on the heels of Lynch’s 2018 Man of the Year Award nomination, the segment will center around Lynch’s nonprofit, the Fam1st Family Foundation, in addition to his business ventures.

Lynch, who famously coined the term “Beast Mode,” is owner of cell phone company Beast Mobile and co-founder of Fam1st Family Foundation, an Oakland-based outreach network that works to educate and empower underserved youth. Fam1st and Beast Mobile have joined forces on an initiative called Phones for the Homeless, which aims to give smartphones and three months of service to 3,000 homeless people across the West Coast at no charge. By playing games, filling out surveys, or watching videos on the Beast Mobile app that comes pre-installed on the smartphones, users can build up credits toward future coverage.

“There is a myth out there that homeless people already get phones from the government. To qualify for a phone, you must already receive some type of assistance like food stamps or Medicare/Medicaid. Also, you need to have a home address, which homeless people do not have,” says Lynch on Beast Mobile’s website. “With Seattle having the third largest homeless population in the U.S., and Oakland (and the Bay Area) having the fourth largest, Beast Mobile and Fam1st Family Foundation are committed to providing a solution to help city officials communicate with this previously untrackable demographic.”

Digital Trends, the world’s largest independent tech publisher, recently launched its ambitious live content programming, and officially hired longtime contributor Greg Nibler to host its live morning tech digest DT Daily. The show has since showcased figures such as former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino.

“Marshawn is an icon, not just in football, but increasingly in his tech and philanthropy work,” says Nibler. “We’re very excited to have him on the show, I’m excited just to meet him, And the cause that he’s supporting is, I think, something that everyone can get behind.”

Lynch will appear live from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. PT on Thursday, December 13, at https://nova-click.com/live. Viewers can donate to Lynch’s nonprofit online.

About Marshawn Lynch

Lynch is in his 11th NFL season as a running back and currently plays for the Oakland Raiders. He was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2007, where he played for three seasons before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks. He played six more seasons there, participating in two Super Bowls and winning one in 2013. Lynch is one of only 31 pro running backs to rush for over 10,000 yards in the NFL. Beast Mode isn’t just a nickname. It’s a lifestyle that Lynch has embraced as a professional athlete, philanthropist, and entrepreneur.  Lynch grew up in Oakland, California, attending high school at Oakland Tech and going to college nearby at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the owner of multiple businesses including Beast Mode Apparel, Beast Mobile, and Rob Ben’s restaurant. As a philanthropist, Lynch co-founded the Fam 1st Family Foundation, which focuses on empowering and educating underserved youth through after-school programs, summer camps, tutoring, and mentorships.
