The PlayStation 4’s life cycle is slowly coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean players have nothing left to be excited about. In fact, 2022 includes some of the highest-profile releases we’ve ever seen for the console — with titles like God of War Ragnarok and a rebooted Saints Row expected to launch over the next several months. If you’re not interested in picking up a PlayStation 5 yet, there are plenty of great current-generation games coming out that will keep you occupied.

Gotham Knights sees you facing off against the gritty underworld’s criminals as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood. No more aliens and no more superpowers. Saints Row is getting back to its roots in 2022. Set in the fictional southwestern city of Santo Ileso, you’ll be tasked with making your mark on the city and removing all the rival gangs from your turf. Early gameplay footage has shown off a third-person action game that’s still filled with over-the-top stunts, and the new city looks to offer plenty of bombastic set pieces for your shenanigans. It’ll also benefit from drop-in/drop-out multiplayer, making it easy for a buddy to hop into your game and join in on the chaos.

This year’s Elder Scrolls Online expansion is giving fans a closer look at Bretons and their home of High Rock. The traditional fantasy setting is filled with towering castles, a shadowy underbelly, and a vibrant ecosystem filled with waterfalls, jungles, and loads of wildlife. Beyond the new location and accompanying questline, High Isle is introducing players to a new collectible card game, Tales of Tribute. The fast-paced mini-game will see you collecting cards and facing off against other players as you battle to become the best player in the land.

After getting pushed out of its 2021 release window, God of War Ragnarok is now expected to arrive sometime this year. Only small bits of gameplay have been revealed so far, and they indicate Ragnarok will be another stunning (and violent) adventure for Kratos and Atreus. This time around, the duo will be up against enemies inspired by Norse mythology. There’s no doubt the game will be pushing PS4 to its limits, and we have to imagine it’ll be the last God of War game released on the platform.

Unfortunately, very little is known about Sonic Frontiers. What we do know, however, has Sonic fans absolutely buzzing for this latest installment. No gameplay footage has been revealed, but Sonic Frontiers is said to take place in an open-world environment that spans multiple unique biomes. The series has been hit-or-miss with its 3D installments as of late, but here’s hoping the sprawling open world breathes new life into the franchise.
