Sometimes a lot of power in a little package is exactly the right thing, and to that end Fujitsu has just taken the wraps off its new LifeBook T730 convertible tablet PC. The T730 is a capable of functioning like a traditional notebook—and offers a 12.1-inch display—but the touch-sensitive screen swivels and flips to make the unit a true tablet PC:—and with options like Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, a dual digitizer with capacitive multi-touch screen it can be a very capable tablet.

The LifeBook T730 is available with a choice of Intel Core i5 processors (running at 2.4 or 2.5 GHz) or an Intel Core i7-620< CPU chugging along at 2.66 GHz—all three feature TurboBoost technology to overclock a core during intensive operations. The units come with pen input, but can be spiffed up with dual digitizers to handle pen input and capacitive touchscreen input. The T7390s support up to 8 GB of RAM, up to 500 GB of hard drive space (a 128 GB SSD is also available), optional modular DVD±RW drive, gigabit Ethernet, optional 802.11 and Bluetooth wireless networking (intel vPro technology is available), and six-cell battery options. Fujitsu will set the units up with 32- or 64-bit versions of Windows 7, and the units feature a built-in webcam, an embedded fingerprint sensor and TPM, HDMI output (Intel HD graphics), and a full-size spill-resistant keyboard and user-cleanable dust filter.
Pricing on the LifeBook T730 starts at $1869; cranking up the options quickly puts the unit in the $3,000 range, but for a Core i7-packing small tablet computer, that’s not a bad deal.
