Before the show floor at CES even opened, Samsung was busy showing off its latest camera models at the CES Unveiled pre-show event Tuesday night. The early lineup for the 2011 year includes a high-performing compact camera, HD camcorder, Wi-Fi enabled point-and-shoot, and a sequel to the mirrorless NX10.
WB700
This new model from Samsung attempts to offer the best of both the amateur and professional worlds in a compact package. The WB700 offers full manual control, a 16 megapixel CCD sensor, 720p HD video recording, and a 24mm ultra-wide Schneider Kreuznach lens with a 24X zoom, 18X optical. In addition to these solid basic features, the WB700 includes a new Smart Filter feature that allows users to photograph in modes like Soft Focus, Fisheye, Cinema, and Sketch. In consideration of the HD video capabilities, Samsung has also introduced zoom noise reduction to cancel out any obstructive noise from video footage. The camera will retail for $299 and will be available in April of this year.
NX11
We got a preview of the WB700 an the NX11 last week when Samsung announced the news, and we got to check out the products hands-on at CES Unveiled. The NX11 follows the NX10 as a mirrorless, large-sensor camera, now with the company’s 18-55mm i-Function lens, which allows users to easily adjust settings like aperture, shutter speed, WB, and ISO by quickly pressing buttons on the side of the lens itself. The 14.6-megapixel camera can also shoot 720p HD video and has a 3-inch AMOLED screen. The NX11 will retail for $649 (bundled with the lens) and will be available next month.
SH100
The SH100 is a slim 14.2-megapixel point-and-shoot that is enabled with Wi-Fi for connectivity and convenience. When linked via Wi-Fi to an Android-powered Samsung Galaxy phone, users can view the shot they are about to take and even remotely activate the shutter. Shots can be backed-up to a PC with the push of only two buttons, and photos can be viewed wirelessly on your HDTV using DLNA technology. Photos can also be easily uploaded to social networking sites or e-mailed to friends directly from the camera. The camera comes with an account with Boingo for access to over 200,000 Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide. The camera will retail for $199 and will be available in March.
HX-Q10
Samsung’s HX-Q10 camcorder aims to provide a full HD recording experience with the ease of use of a small device. The camera features a prominent red record button and uses a BSI CMOS censor. Switch Grip allows the user to easily record in any handheld position, while the 2.7 inch LCD screen rotates accordingly for viewing. The camcorder will retail for $299 and will be available next month.
