Now you see it, now you don’t: Nexus 5 appears briefly on Play store, 16GB for $350

Check out our review of the Google Nexus 5 smart phone.

Now you see it, now you don’t. On Thursday evening, some eagle-eyed observers of the Google Play store spotted a listing for the long-awaited Nexus 5, though a short time later it was removed.

The page (below) showed the forthcoming phone beside the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, with the words, “Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways.”

It also appeared to reveal the price – $350 for the 16GB model, matching the price of its predecessor.

So what’s Google playing at here? Was the temporary listing simply a cruel tease designed to work would-be buyers into an eye-popping frenzy of excitement and anticipation?

Or was it possibly the result of an exhausted Googler – having spent the best part of Thursday putting the final touches to the Nexus 5 page – keeling over onto their keyboard, their nose bashing the mouse which in turn hit the ‘publish’ button?

Either way, it’s pretty certain the Mountain View company is going to pull the wraps off the LG-made device any day now, and almost definitely before the month’s over.

As for specs, recent leaks and rumors seem to have settled on a 5-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel camera. The Nexus 4 successor will run Android 4.4 KitKat and come in two storage options, 16GB and 32GB.

For more details on what we can expect with Google’s new handset when the company does finally decide to embark on the big reveal, check out Andy Boxall’s comprehensive rundown here.

The home screen on the Google Pixel 8 Pro.

Google's Pixel 10 lineup has been out for a bit, and if you've been on the fence about switching to Android's gold standard, current discounts across Amazon make this the best time to buy. We're seeing up to 26% off across the entire Pixel family, including phones and accessories.

Why buy a Pixel right now?
Google has always built the Pixel line around one idea: the smartest possible Android experience. With the Pixel 10 series, that philosophy gets a significant upgrade thanks to deep Gemini AI integration: Google's most capable AI assistant to date. It handles everything from real-time call screening and live translation to on-device photo editing and natural-language search, and it does so more seamlessly than any other Android on the market.
Add in Google's reputation for exceptional cameras, clean software, and the longest OS update commitments of any Android manufacturer, and the Pixel 10 lineup makes a compelling case for itself even at full price. At these discounted prices, it's a genuinely hard argument to beat.
