What’s happened: 20th Century Studios revealed a new trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, teasing more huge changes to writer-director James Cameron’s epic sci-fi saga.

  • The trailer begins with the Na’Vi villain, Varang (Oona Chaplin), discussing the Ash People’s tragic history and subsequent hatred for the goddess Eywa.
  • Spider (Jack Champion), a human, now has the ability to breathe on Pandora without a mask and form a mental link with the alien wildlife.
  • Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) is shown forming an alliance with the Ash People to spread destruction throughout Pandora, waging an epic war against the Sully family and their allies.
  • Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) also reunites with his giant red toruk from the first Avatar film to fight his enemies.

Why this is important: This trailer reveals more of what will be seen in the third film of the mega-popular Avatar franchise.

  • Avatar: Fire and Ash is a sequel to Avatar: The Way of Water, which reignited the Na’Vi’s brutal war against humanity.
  • Cameron told Variety that Avatar: Fire and Ash will display “greater character depth” and new cultures and creatures on Pandora.

Why should I care? The trailer teased a darker, world-changing story that should make Avatar: Fire and Ash a unique and exciting sequel for audiences.

  • Since the first two Avatar films were well-received and grossed billions of dollars, Avatar: Fire and Ash could soon achieve comparable success in theaters.

OK, what’s next? Avatar: Fire and Ash will premiere in theaters on December 19, 2025.

  • Tickets for the film are not on sale.
  • Fans can catch up on the story so far as theaters worldwide screen Avatar: The Way of Water again in 3D for one week on October 3.
