ESPN Comes to Verizon Network

If you are a big sports fan and in the market for a new mobile phone and service provider, Verizon may have the deal you have been looking for. Announced today, Verizon Wireless customers that sign up for the company’s V CAST service will be able to receive various ESPN content including real-time sports news, scores and information, including scoring alerts and even video content.

“ESPN has built the best wireless sports application of its kind and we are extremely pleased to offer our unique content and unmatched innovation through the nation’s leading wireless carrier and data provider,” said Salil Mehta, executive vice president, ESPN Enterprises. “For ESPN, this is the right strategy and the right carrier relationship to grow our business while serving millions of sports fans with the information they want, when and how they want it.”

Some of the content available by ESPN for Verizon include:

  • The Mobile ESPN application, which will offer real-time sports news, scores and information; personalization for favorite teams; scoring alerts; video and much more for V CAST customers.
  • Exclusive information and features from ESPN, including select ESPN Insider content and ESPN fantasy team management on Verizon Wireless’ V CAST services.
  • With ESPN On Demand mobile video, V CAST customers will get video clips including highlights, analysis, news and content from ESPN-branded shows including SportsCenter, Cold Pizza, Rome is Burning, Outside the Lines, Pardon the Interruption and Around the Horn.

If you are wondering about price, if you are a general V CAST subscriber, you will get ESPN’s content as part of the V CAST service without an extra charge.

If you are using another service provider like Sprint or Cingular, and have a MobiTV capable phone, you also have the option of accessing ESPN content. You can find more information about the MobiTV and ESPN partnership here.
