Plans for a live-action Teen Titans television series based on the DC Comics superhero team were announced back in September 2014, but there’s been little news about the project since that point. An update has finally arrived, however, in the form of a report that lists the planned lineup for the team.
According to Nerdist, the live-action version of the Teen Titans will feature a grown-up Robin, wheelchair-bound tech expert Barbara Gordon (the daughter of James Gordon), the powerful super-duo of Hawk and Dove, and two more of the team’s founding members in the DC Comics universe, Raven and Starfire. The report indicates that Batman’s partner, Dick Grayson, will begin the series as Robin and gradually transition into his more modern role as the solo hero known as Nightwing.
The series’ Hawk and Dove — a pair of superheroes granted powerful abilities from the Lords of Chaos and Order — are said to be the more recent iterations of the characters, Hank Hall and Dawn Granger, who are romantically linked despite their opposing powers. The report also notes that Barbara Gordon will not be going by the nickname “Oracle” as she does in the comics.
Conspicuously absent from the lineup are several of the team’s traditional founding members, including Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Kid Flash. Still, with Cyborg planned as a character in the upcoming Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Flash already running well in his own solo series on The CW, it’s not surprising to see these particular characters left out of the initial lineup.
The report has not been confirmed by TNT or Warner Bros., so it should be considered a rumor until the network says otherwise.
The pilot episode for Teen Titans is expected to begin filming later this year, with no premiere date set for the series at this point.
