HBO brings back Larry David for more ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ hilarity after hiatus

Forget curbing anything, and get as excited as you want: At long last, Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming back. HBO announced today that the ninth season of the acclaimed comedy series starring Larry David is on its way.

With season 8 having aired in September 2011, the hiatus has been a long one. David, however, was finally ready to return. “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned,'” said the show creator, writer, and star of his decision, according to an HBO Medium post. Ah, yes, who doesn’t know that quote?

David’s comedic retelling of history is sketchy in both the case of the quote and in how it depicts his career since 2011. “Nothing” is hardly an accurate description of a successful stint on Broadway with Life in the Dark (a play he wrote and starred in), a lead role in 2012’s Three Stooges, co-writing and starring in 2013’s Clear History, and guest starring on the shows Trip Tank and The League. And let’s not forget his hilarious appearances in recent months on Saturday Night Live as presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, either.

Busy or not, David’s return is long overdue, and more Curb Your Enthusiasm is a win for the newly promoted Casey Bloys, HBO programming president. “We’re thrilled that Larry has decided to do a new season of Curb and can’t wait to see what he has planned,” he said in a statement.

The series will offer more of David playing an extreme version of himself and his career in the entertainment industry. After being developed from a one-hour special that aired in 1999, there have been 80 episodes to date, making Curb Your Enthusiasm HBO’s longest-running scripted or drama series. The show premiered in 2000 and has taken breaks between seasons before, but none so long as the gap between season 8 and the upcoming one.

A season 9 premiere date has not yet been announced.

The House of the Dragon season 3 final trailer just spoiled its most anticipated moment

HBO has never been shy about building suspense, so it came as a surprise when the final trailer for House of the Dragon season 3 casually revealed one of its biggest moments up front.

The outcome of the much-anticipated Battle of the Gullet, the centerpiece naval clash that opens the season, is effectively out in the open. Rhaenyra Targaryen wins the battle and takes over King's Landing. For fans of George R.R. Martin's source material, Fire and Blood, this was inevitable. For everyone else, it is a bittersweet spoiler they might have preferred to discover on screen themselves, though the closing moments of season 2 made this development all but unavoidable.

The Hulu app might not be dead right now. But Disney might be working behind the scenes to make you want to use it less. Disney's streaming tech teams are working on a multi-phase plan called Project Gemini, which aims on bringing more of Hulu's content and features into Disney+.

The reports claims that the unified experience is expected to be finished by the end of the year, based on a leaked internal document and two streaming employees. However, Disney told Business Insider that there are "no current plans to sunset" the standalone Hulu app.
