Eve is looking to offer stiff competition to Microsoft’s popular 2-in-1 Surface laptop with a similar creation of its own. Known as the Eve V, it will support the Surface Pen and possibly the Surface Dial. It will also have a wireless keyboard, zero bloatware, and some impressive hardware specifications.
All of this was revealed in a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), where CEO and founder Konstantinos Karatsevidis shared a number of details about the device. This is typical of Eve’s production plan, which involves a lot of communication with the user base about features they would like to see in the hardware.
This is perhaps why the Eve V has such solid internal specifications, despite the suggested $900 starting price, per MSPoweruser. Internal hardware as revealed so far includes an Intel seventh-generation Kaby Lake CPU, up to 16GB of LPDDR3, up to 512GB of solid-state storage, 10 hours of battery life, and a 12.5-inch IPS LCD display, running at 2,160 x 1,440 resolution.
The only weak part of the lineup is the graphics processor (GPU) is Intel’s standard, onboard HD chip. However, Eve is said to be investigating the idea of an external GPU for gaming purposes.
The Surface is being built with help from Microsoft, so should work well with Windows when released. Unfortunately, despite all of the additional Surface-accessory functionality with the Eve V, it will not be able to work with the Surface keyboard, as the pins are proprietary. Much of its inputs will be similar to the Surface though, including a precision touchpad.
The AMA also revealed that the Eve V will be compatible with Mozo accessories, with a planned shelf life of the 2-in-1 at around two years. Support for it in the future will extend by an additional three years, meaning that you should be covered for most eventualities.
Still, we are not quite there yet. The device is currently going through its electronics layout for testing and debugging. It is set to hit Indiegogo in November.
