There had been murmurs about it for a while, but a special limited edition of the Asus ZenBook UX305 is ready to hit the web, with upgraded specs, and a slick matte white finish. We reviewed the UX305 earlier this year, and commended it for its high-contrast display, slim construction, and affordable price point.
The Asus ZenBook UX305 Crystal White Limited Edition isn’t just about the slick new finish. The LE model upgrades the 1080p screen to a 3,200 x 1,800 matte IPS screen, exclusive to the Crystal version. We really liked the high contrast, glare-free screen on the old model, but a resolution bump is always appreciated.
Like the normal version of the UX305, the LE takes advantage of a power-efficient Intel Core M CPU, the 5Y71, which has a modest base clock speed of 1.2GHz, and a Turbo Boost of up to 2.9GHz. They both have 8GB of RAM, but the Limited Edition also doubles the size of the SSD, up to 512GB from 256GB.
Both models pack in 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a Micro HDMI port, and three USB 3.0 plugs. We didn’t find it was particularly battery efficient in our review, even with the portable Core M processor and tiny footprint.
If you miss the boat on the Crystal LE ZenBook, you can still opt for the new Champagne Gold option, which is available with the standard features of the UX305. It starts at $699, which is a wallet-friendly price for a well-equipped notebook.
The Asus ZenBook UX305 Crystal White Limited Edition will go on sale for a very reasonable $999, if you can get your hands on it. Asus will only be selling 200 of this enviable UX305, and they go on sale at 1 PM eastern time, 10 AM Pacific (in other words, right now).
