Taiwan-based phone maker HTC is hoping make as big a splash with their new phone as they have with their new Vive VR headset. It’s called the HTC 10, and rather than produce some glossy effects-laden video announcing the phone, the head of HTC’s phone division landed on YouTube to chat up the new handset.
Features start with the hi-res 2K screen, high-performance cameras front and back, a 3,000mah battery that they claim is good for two days of use, these lovely chamfered edges, and there’s even built-in 24-bit audio up-conversion. The HTC 10 will sell for about $700 and HTC is hoping it’s a hit, because they need one. HTC used to own the Android phone market, but no more as they trail both Samsung and LG.
With all the hype over the new Tesla Model 3 and the upcoming Model X, it’s easy to forget that as time marches on, Tesla also updates their bread-and-butter car, the Model S. While the S has seen only slight cosmetic changes over time, it looks like the 2017 version will be a bit more of a departure. An image of the latest Model S, which turned up on Reddit, features a new nose a la the Model 3, and there are more changes under the skin.
Rumors are swirling that there’s going to be a P100D variant with a 100 kilowatt-hour battery that should give the car a range of 300 miles. And with more battery power, the re-skinned Model S may be able to beat its blistering 0 to 60 time of 2.8 seconds – when set to “ludicrous mode” of course. Also, the new Model S may pack an upgraded Auto Pilot system that may give the car near-complete autonomous driving capability. It’s all speculation at this point, but the official word from Tesla is expected to come soon.
If you’ve been pining for a return of the golden era of instant analog photography, a new camera may just scratch that itch. The new I-1 instant camera comes from the oddly name Impossible Project. It uses Polaroid-type instant film and looks a bit like a cross between grandma’s old dial phone and a Polaroid SX-70.
It’s not all old-school, though. There’s an app for the camera that lets users adjust all kinds of settings. If you’re wondering where to get film for it, the Impossible Project has you covered, since they actually bought the last Polaroid 600 film facility and now turn out a huge number of film options. They even make a device to turn your cell phone pix into polaroid prints. The I-1 is expected to sell for about $300 and will be available in just about a month.
