Ubisoft and Sony continue to whisper sweet nothings to each other over their mutual love affair of the Assassin’s Creed series. Last year, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood favored the PS3 with an early beta of the multiplayer and—far more importantly—exclusive DLC content in the form of an entire chapter in the life of Ezio, titled the “Copernicus Conspiracy.”
Not being one to shun money, Ubisoft eventually released the same DLC on Xbox Live–for a modest fee of course–but the PS3 users were the clear beneficiaries. That trend is continuing with Assassin’s Creed Revelations, as the PS3 is once again the belle of the Assassin’s Creed ball.
Besides having the multiplayer beta available now as a PS3 exclusive, the upcoming retail game will have a special feature for PS3 users: A full copy of the original Assassin’s Creed game. The blu-ray format means that the entire first game and the new game will be located on the same disc, but it will only be included on the first copies of the game scheduled for a day one release–future copies will not contain the game. So if you get tired of wiping out poor, foolish members of the Ottoman Empire dumb enough to get in the way of Ezio in his newest quest, you can take a break and return to the beautiful and scenic Holy Land, sight of such great historical moments as the Crusades, and the Second Crusades, and the Third Crusades, and the Fourth Crusades, etc., etc.
For those that skipped the original title, you may want to brush up a bit as the newest game features multiple playable flashbacks that put you in the shoes of the original protagonist, the assassin Altair, during the Third Crusades (12th Century). If you know the franchise–or just notice that the title has the word “assassin” in it–you can probably guess what Altair is all about. As he takes care of multiple targets spread over three massive cities, his actions lead the way, both professionally and genetically, to both Ezio and later Desmond.
Assassin’s Creed Revelations will be released on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 15. The multiplayer beta is available for PS3 users now.
