Destiny: The Taken King abilities are now in the real world

Destiny: The Taken King is just days away, and all signs point to it delivering what the smaller “expansions” could not, with more campaign missions, a new raid, and several new abilities for your Guardian of choice. But what if you could bring powers like “electric storm” and a flaming hammer into the real world.

Activision asked this question, and YouTuber Alex Noon took up the challenge at the U.K.-based “Guardian Training Camp.” He was given the opportunity to wield real-life recreations of the new Destiny: The Taken King abilities, and as you can see in the videos, this meant strapping into a giant Tesla Coil and firing 750,000 volts of electricity from his hands to temporarily become a warlock.

“You basically wear a full chainmail suit, so the idea is the electricity passes over you and not through you,” Noon says. “Which is a good thing, because I don’t really want like a million volts going through me.”

If fire is more your thing, then the Titan Sunbreaker’s hammer is what you’ll want to get your hands on. Noon poses for the camera as he holds a hammer with flames rising nearly a foot in the air, though insurance concerns were likely behind the decision to not let him actually swing it at anything. As he says in the video, the hammer was covering in oil to set it alight, so this was probably for the best.

Destiny: The Taken King launches on Sept. 15 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3, and the $60 “Legendary Edition” gives newcomers a chance to try out the original game and its first two expansions as well. If you want to see more of the “real” powers in action, YouTuber James White posted his own video of the experience, complete with shots of him putting on the Tesla suit and examining the machine itself.
