Microsoft may soon let you stream your Xbox games for free, with ads and playtime limits

Sadly, this new tier might not give you access to the full Xbox Game Pass library.

Microsoft appears to be preparing a new ad-supported tier for its cloud gaming service, and early signs of it are already showing up for some gamers. The move could open up Xbox Cloud Gaming to a much wider audience, especially those who don’t subscribe to Xbox Game Pass but already own digital copies of Xbox titles.

According to a recent post from The Verge’s Tom Warren on X, some Xbox Cloud Gaming users have reported seeing a notice referencing the upcoming tier while launching games. The notice suggests that the ad-supported option will offer access to the cloud gaming service for a limited session length. Since Microsoft has yet to announce the new tier officially, it’s possible that the notice was pushed prematurely.

At the moment, Xbox Cloud Gaming is tied to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription, and users need to pay a monthly fee to stream games from the cloud. Windows Central reports that the ad-supported tier may work differently. Instead of giving full access to the Xbox Game Pass library, it could allow players to stream Xbox games they already own for a limited session supported by ads.

Previous reports suggest that the ad-supported tier may also include access to Xbox Retro Classics and select Free Play Days title. Microsoft has allegedly been testing this tier internally for several months, and the appearance of the notice suggests that it could roll out soon.

How the ad-supported tier could work

Sources familiar with the company’s plans have previously indicated that the ad-supported tier may play around two minutes of ads before a time-restricted cloud gaming session. These sessions could be capped at one hour, with up to five hours of free play available per month.

This move could help Microsoft greatly expland Xbox Cloud Gaming’s reach. A free, ad-supported option would make it easier for players to try cloud gaming without committing to a subscription, while also giving Microsoft another revenue stream through advertising. With Microsoft steadily expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming availability to more platforms, Amazon’s Fire TV being the latest addition, an ad-supported tier could play a key role in bringing the service to an even broader audience.

Why buy three monitors when MSI wants you to buy one expensive one?

Gaming monitors have slowly become one of the most aggressively competitive categories in PC hardware. Over the past few years, brands have raced to push refresh rates higher, improve OLED technology, reduce response times, and deliver increasingly brighter displays. But despite all those upgrades, buyers still usually have to pick one side of the experience. You either buy a super-fast esports monitor with lower resolution or a high-resolution OLED display focused more on cinematic gaming.

At Computex 2026, MSI appears to be trying to eliminate that compromise. The company has officially unveiled the MSI MPG OLED 322URDX36, which it describes as the world’s first triple-mode QD-OLED gaming monitor.

Give yourself the edge in galactic conquest with these cheats and commands
Fleet in Stellaris

Running a galactic empire in Stellaris is an arduous task. One bad war, an economic spiral, or one neighbor with a suspiciously large fleet can turn a promising save into a slow-motion disaster. You may want to fix a mistake, or maybe even want to test a build. And sometimes, you just want to see what happens when your empire suddenly has more alloys than sense.

This is where Stellaris console commands come in. These cheats let you add resources, finish research, control empires, spawn ships, trigger events, or bend the galaxy in ways the normal game usually won’t allow.

Is Rust cross-platform?
Yes, but there's levels to this.
Rust player running by buildings.

Rust is the kind of survival game where choosing the right server matters almost as much as choosing the right weapon. This also reflects on the platform of your choice. If you're you're friends are spread across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, you’ll want to know exactly who can play together before anyone starts building a base.

The answer to the question is simple in one way and annoying in another. Rust supports crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox players, but PC players cannot play with console players. So yes, there is cross-platform support, but only inside the console version of the game.
