A new PS4 turns back the clock to celebrate 20 years of PlayStation

On the eve of PlayStation Experience, Sony has revealed a special edition version of its PlayStation 4 that nods back to the progenitor in its line of gaming consoles: the PSOne (originally just “PlayStation”). The re-skinned PS4, DualShock 4 controller, and PS4 Eye Camera all sport the slate-grey color and original logos that adorned the original PlayStation.

The announcement of this anniversary PS4 is timed to the PSOne’s 20th birthday, as Sony’s original console launched on December 3, 1994. There’s no pricing or availability to share just yet, though Sony’s PS Blog post on the matter notes that pre-order details for the U.S. and Canada will be revealed on Saturday, December 6, during the keynote address at PlayStation Experience.

This doesn’t mean that the special edition console will only be available in those regions. The production run is limited to 12,300 globally, as noted in the unboxing video above. Check it out for a closer look at this fancypants console.

The 512GB Steam Deck OLED now costs $789, rising from its previous $549 price, while the 1TB OLED model has moved from $649 to $949. Valve has linked the increase to higher memory and storage costs, which are being driven by the ongoing AI boom. Valve has officially raised the prices of the Steam Deck OLED in the US and several other global markets, and the increases are substantial. The move makes the company the latest major gaming platform holder to hike hardware pricing amid rising component costs and ongoing global economic pressures.

The biggest shock comes from the higher-end models. The 1TB Steam Deck OLED now costs $950 in the US, up from its original $650 launch price. Meanwhile, the 512GB OLED version has jumped from $550 to $790.
