In an unsurprising leak, it appears that The Witcher 3 will be receiving a Game of the Year edition, which will include all previously released downloadable content.
According to filings with the German ratings board, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Game of the Year Edition will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The game released in summer of 2015 to instant critical acclaim. It quickly found an audience, and by the end of the summer had already sold over 6 million units, eclipsing its two previous entries. It has since become the most awarded game in history — with 251 Game of the Year awards, it narrowly edged out the previous holder of this title, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us.
The Witcher 3 excelled in pretty much every department. From storytelling, to voice acting, character development, gameplay, and even open-world design, just about everyone fell in love with protagonist Geralt of Rivia and his varied cast of friends. Based on a series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher been adapted not only as a video game, but to comics, movies, and television as well.
Sadly, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be the last adventure fans will have with Geralt. Luckily, though, studio CD Projekt Red released two massive expansion packs that added quite a bit of heft to the game. Both expansions were almost as big as The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The Polish studio is currently working on two projects, card game Gwent: The Witcher, and Cyberpunk 2077.
As of now, it’s uncertain when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Game of the Year Edition will hit stores, but it wouldn’t be too surprising if it lands later this year, just in time for the holidays.
