Norwegian company Hareide Design has unveiled a new yacht that makes the common man’s yacht look like a leaky canoe.
The ship is named “108M” after its impressive size — 108 meters, or approximately 350 feet. The concept features a garden, floor-to-ceiling windows in the grand hall, and even its own private beach. The yacht’s design is meant to invoke a seamless indoor to outdoor experience so that passengers can be in touch with nature. It features a classic monohull design, yet it’s quite different from your traditional megayacht, which usually looks more like a luxury hotel than a nature conservatory. But you knew that, right?
Contained within the six-level ship is an elevated dining room and an upper deck featuring a garden that’s perfect for relaxing in the sunshine, as well as a 65-foot infinity pool. The back of the yacht slopes down to meet the water, creating a sort of beach (minus the sand). It’s more like a wading pool complete with waves. The grand hall is is a double story versatile venue.
Throughout the design, the space is meant to accentuate the beauty of the natural world, and the changes nature goes through, the company claims. From everywhere inside the lavish interior, passengers can enjoy views of the ocean. At lower speeds, the yacht is powered by the sun, fed by 3,000 square feet of solar panels. There is a diesel portion of the engine as well that kicks in at higher speeds. There’s even a helipad — of COURSE there’s a helipad — to make travel to and from the nearest airport easier.
The yacht is still only in the concept stage, however. Hareide Design is testing the waters to see if it can find an interested buyer. If it’s actually produced, 108M will certainly be a statement piece. What sort of statement do you think it makes?
