Archos prepares to play the smartphone game, as three Android devices are leaked

Archos Smartphone LeakArchos is rumored to be preparing its first range of smartphones for launch, with a view to putting them on sale in the next few months. The brand is best known for producing music players and tablets, most recently the new Platinum range of Android slates, so smartphones are at least a logical progression.

The details come from Russian tech website Hi-Tech, where three Archos phones are detailed. The largest of the three is said to be called the Archos 52 Titanium, which could be equipped with a big 5.2-inch screen, although the resolution is listed as a slightly disappointing 480 x 800 pixels. The processor will be a dual-core, 1.2GHz chip with 512MB of RAM, plus it’s likely to have a 5 megapixel camera, while the operating system is down as Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

This will be joined by the Archos 48 Platinum, which according to the leak, will have a 4.8-inch, 1280 x 800 pixel touchscreen, a quad-core, 1.7GHz MediaTek processor and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Finally, there’s the budget Archos 35 Carbon, which should have a 3.5-inch, 320 x 480 pixel screen, a 1GHz single-core processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and dual-SIM support.

It’s suggested the Archos 35 Carbon will cost just 90 euros, or $120, while the more impressive Archos 48 Platinum will be 249 euros, or $330. Not bad for a phone with a similar spec to the Samsung Galaxy S3. Talking of Samsung’s hugely popular Android flagship phone, Archos has definitely taken some design inspiration from it and the Note 2, if the leaked pictures are to be believed. You can see the 48 Platinum on the left in the picture above, with the 52 Titanium beside it.

Archos will apparently put the three phones on sale somewhere between April and May, but as to where it will do so is a mystery. We’d expect to hear more about them at Mobile World Congress.
