Cricket launches Huawei Mercury Android smartphone

Add as a preferred source on Google

Cricket Huawei MercuryCricket Wireless has officially added a new Android smartphone to their growing range. Called the Huawei Mercury, it’s the third device from the Chinese manufacturer that the network will offer, although it may be more familiar to some under its previous name of the Huawei Glory.

As with other Huawei phones, this endless renaming isn’t unusual, and the Mercury/Glory is also known as the Huawei Honor and under the U8860 model number.

Equipped with a 1.4Ghz Scorpion processor and 512MB RAM, the Mercury should keep pace with considerably more expensive hardware, plus the 4-inch touchscreen with its 480 x 854 pixel FWVGA resolution should look good too. On the rear of the 11mm/0.5-inch thick chassis sits the lens to an 8-megapixel camera, which can also shoot 720p video, while around the front is a secondary video call lens.

There’s 2GB of internal memory, with a microSD slot for cards up to 32GB, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi and GPS too. Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread comes pre-installed, but a preview build of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Honor suggests an official upgrade could appear in the future. In the meantime, if you’re feeling brave, the Honor’s upgrade should work on the Mercury too.

If the Huawei Mercury’s impressive specification has piqued your interest, then you’ll be pleased to know that not only is it available through Cricket right now, but it’s priced at a competitive $249 too.
