Every weekend, I try to find a movie to watch and decompress, and Netflix is often one of my go-to spots. As anyone who has ever tried to pick a movie on a streaming service can attest, you often find yourself stuck in a depressing rut.
If you’re looking for something underrated on Netflix that’s well worth your time, we’ve got you covered. Here are three interesting movies you should check out on Netflix this weekend.
We also have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best shows on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.
Sly (2023)

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most fascinating movie stars of the last 50 years. The actor, with an unconventional face and unconventional charisma, became a star in large part by betting on himself and by carefully managing both his career and his image.
While these documentaries can sometimes be a little hagiographic, Sly manages to dig just a little bit deeper, reminding us of all the ways that Stallone’s career mirrors the story of his more iconic characters. Stallone is a smart guy, and whether you agree with him or not, the way he thinks about his life is genuinely fascinating.

The Remarkable Life of Ibelin (2024)

A documentary that’s also an act of discovery, The Remarkable Life of Ibelin follows the story of a Norwegian man with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who built a life for himself inside of World of Warcraft. This life was a secret to his family, who only learned about it from the many friends he made in the world of the game after he had died.
This documentary combines raw interview footage with footage from inside of World of Warcraft to give you a sense of how one man made the lives of his fellow players better, even as he was confined almost completely to a chair.

Talk to Me (2022)

A remarkably effective and deeply unsettling debut feature, Talk to Me tells the story of a group of friends who get hooked on using a cursed hand to summon spirits from another world. When one of the kids takes things too far, they all find themselves under threat from mysterious and unstoppable forces.
Talk to Me has a fairly simple premise, but it’s executed with remarkable vision by directors Michael and Danny Philippou. The imagery here is part of the reason this movie became such a critical sensation, and why it deserves an even bigger audience.
