Each week, DT’s newest show, Between the Streams, is your guide to all of the hottest, most important, and (of course) dumbest new developments in streaming and entertainment to recap the week that was.
A ton of cool stuff happened this week, leading off with the release of the first trailer from Lucasfilm’s latest Star Wars saga, Rogue One. And while we go deep and dirty into all the details, that just scratches the surface this week as we look at everything from the GoPro 3-shot feature film Hardcore Henry, Richard Linklater’s newest film Everybody Wants Some, Aaron Paul’s new Hulu series The Path, and so much more.

Rogue One‘s first look was a treasure trove of insight into Gareth Edwards’ spinoff film about the rag-tag team who steals the plans to the Death Star, allowing it to be blown up courtesy of one Luke Skywalker. The big takeaway from the trailer, apart from badass series newcomer Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), is just how awesomely retro the aesthetic for the film looks. It makes sense that Abrams’ The Force Awakens is a little more shiny and new then the original trilogy — it’s set in the future, after all.
However, Rogue One is set right before the original Star Wars (aka: A New Hope), meaning it should look a little dusty, and dusty it is, as well as brilliantly nostalgic. The rebel base hangar is rebuilt to perfection, complete with X-Wing and Gonk Droid, and the entire clip gives a pleasant feeling of stepping backward in time. Jyn Erso also looks to be a compelling new hero, as does Forest Whitaker’s (possibly Mandalorian) character, and Diego Luna’s silent soldier as well. Don’t worry, our video/podcast goes much deeper.
We also talk about Hardcore Henry‘s big open this week. The first-person action film, shot almost entirely on a GoPro 3, is a revolutionary effort from rocker/filmmaker Ilya Naishuller, using a special rig to shoot the film and taking audiences on an almost VR-style adventure. But will the device hold up for the full hour and a half?
In addition, we reveal our new Between the Cracks series — which highlights something you may have missed each week — in Aaron Paul’s new series The Path. With a unique and compelling storyline, and top-notch performances, the series could well become your next binge fodder.
