What’s happened: Netflix released a stunning new trailer for Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s new horror movie, Frankenstein, based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel of the same name.

  • While the first trailer for Frankenstein was told from Victor Frankenstein’s (Oscar Isaac) perspective, the latest one is told from the Creature’s (Jacob Elordi) point of view.
  • The trailer offers glimpses of Victor creating the Creature, as well as the latter meeting the Blind Man (David Bradley), confronting Elizabeth (Mia Goth), and attacking a ship in the Arctic.
  • The Creature says he will “indulge in rage” if he is not awarded love, implying that he is threatening Victor to build him a bride, just like in Shelley’s novel.

Why this is important: Frankenstein has been del Toro’s passion project for several years, and it looks like the film will do Shelley’s novel justice.

  • Based on both trailers, del Toro’s Frankenstein appears to be one of the more faithful adaptations of Shelley’s story.
  • The trailer implies that the film will spend enough time on Victor and the Creature’s respective journeys.

Why should I care? Frankenstein‘s trailer teases a beautiful and tragic Gothic horror based around one of pop culture’s most iconic tales.

  • Given the widespread prestige of del Toro and Shelley’s story, Frankenstein seems like it will be another award-contending film for the former.
  • Though Shelley’s Frankenstein has had several adaptations over the years, del Toro’s could be one of the better versions of the story.

OK, what’s next? Frankenstein will be released in select theaters on October 17, 2025, so fans can experience this epic horror film on the big screen, depending on where they live.

  • Frankenstein will also be available to stream on Netflix on November 7, allowing audiences to watch it from home.

Harry Potter TV series’ first trailer is out and it feels like a replay I didn’t ask for
HBO had a chance to reinvent Harry Potter, but this feels like a visual rerun.

Well, HBO has finally dropped the first trailer for its Harry Potter TV series, set to premiere this Christmas, and it brings you right back to the beginning. That's broadly the only source of a vague intrigue for me, and I'm being generous here. Yes, it sets the stage for what should be a bold reinterpretation of the Harry Potter world. The trailer, however, settles for a safe, almost unimaginative retread.

Alright, so what am I looking at?
