Live-action Teen Titans TV series being developed for TNT

The live-action television side of DC Comics and parent company Warner Bros. has been forging ahead with quite a bit of momentum lately thanks to the success of Arrow, with upcoming spinoff series The Flash and standalone series Gotham and Constantine all premiering in the near future. And now another project is reportedly in the works based on DC Comics’ popular team of teenage superheroes, Teen Titans.

Deadline reports that the series — currently titled Titans — is one of three series currently awaiting approval for a pilot episode at TNT. The series will reportedly follow Batman’s former partner, Dick Grayson (a.k.a. Robin), as he emerges from the shadow of his mentor to become a crimefighter and lead a team of young superheroes. Longstanding team members Starfire and Raven are among the comic-book characters expected to make the transition from page to screen in the series.

The Titans series is being written by Oscar-winning scribe Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Marc Haimes. Of course, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first Batman-related project Goldsman has penned. The writer/producer was also the screenwriter on both of director Joel Schumacher’s installments of the Batman franchise in the ’90s, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.

DC’s teenage superhero team has been a longstanding part of the publisher’s universe, but experienced a surge in popularity during the ’80s under writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez, who had the characters deal with the drama of young adulthood alongside all of their superhero adventures. The series has been relaunched several times at DC, and spawned several popular animated series and an animated feature.
