More news continues to come from the Spider-Man movie reboot. The cast is in place, and filming has begun. Images have been flowing through the intertubes for a few weeks now, but today Sony and Columbia have released an official image of Spider-Man in his new costume, they have launched a new website for the film, and–most importantly—they have given the film a name: The Amazing Spider-Man.

Direted by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, the film is a reboot for the series, and is planned as the first of several films with the current cast and upcoming storylines. Details on the script have been scarce, but the casting news has helped give us a rough idea of what to expect. Garfield will play Spider-Man in college, and his primary foe will be Dr. Curt Conners/The Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans), a professor who acts as something of a mentor to Peter Parker. A botched scientific experiment designed to regrow Dr. Conner’s lost limb has horrible side effects, and the professor becomes the monstrous and uncontrollable Lizard.

The film also features the character of Peter’s first true love, Gwen Stacy (played by Emma Stone), and her father, police Captain George Stacy (played by Dennis Leary), will also be part of the mix. Missing from the Spider-Man lore are both Mary Jane Watson, and Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson.

The film’s new website, TheAmazingSpiderMan-movie.com is still bare bones at the moment, but it is live. The Amazing Spider-Man is being filmed now in 3D, for a July 3, 2012 release.
