Tom Hardy tries out MMA in this trailer for Warrior

It has been a long, strange trip for actor Tom Hardy. A few years ago, he was best known as the answer to a Star Trek trivia question about who played the bad guy in Star Trek: Nemesis, and now he is one of the most sought after up-and-coming actors working today.

Most Americans may know the British actor from his role as the forger as Eames the forger in Inception, or possibly his award winning turn as the titular character in the British drama, Bronson, but give it about a year, and odds are he will be a household name. Actually give it a year and three months, when the actor will appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises as Bane next July. In the meantime though, American audiences will have a handful of opportunities to see the actor work, including his next film due out in September, Warrior.

Warrior is the story of the estranged Conlon family. After Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns from military service as a war hero, he tracks down his recovering alcoholic father (Oscar-winner Nick Nolte), and seeks his help in training for an upcoming MMA fight. At the same time, Tommy’s brother Brendan (Joel Edgerton), now a former fighter turned peaceful teacher, is close to losing everything due to financial concerns. Both brothers enter the same MMA tournament, and wind up on a collision course.

Directed by Gavin O’Connor (Miracle, Pride and Glory), Warrior hits theaters on September 9, 2011.

Apple just revealed Liminal, and it already looks like a serious contender for its next big sci-fi movie. With a clear sci-fi hook and recognizable names attached, this is the kind of announcement that’s easy to get invested in early.

The project comes from Apple Original Films and pairs Vanessa Kirby with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in leading roles. It’s directed by Louis Leterrier, who’s known for keeping stories fast and visually sharp, which already hints at a more kinetic kind of sci-fi than Apple usually leans into.
