Crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter are rapidly becoming the crucibles in which the ever-expanding army of wacky Bluetooth speakers are forged. And while it feels like we’ve seen enough of these little portable players to fill up an industrial-sized warehouse, when a company boasts a speaker with enough waterproof capabilities to survive a toilet flush, we have to take notice. Such is the case with the new Mighty speaker from Morrison Innovations, currently making its way through Indiegogo.
Touted as being dust proof, sand proof (kind of the same thing), and waterproof, the tiny little Mighty speaker is built to accompany you no matter where you go, be it beach, boat, or bathtub. The video claims the speaker can withstand being immersed in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes – so, unfortunately, no scuba outings allowed. The speaker also floats, and is equipped with a suction cup to make it handy for shower time, or even as a makeshift tablet stand.

The Mighty speaker is the follow up to Morrison’s previous crowdfunded speaker, the Rebel. The company says the latest speaker is “much louder and better designed” than its previous offering. That’s a good thing because, as the video reminds us, the previous speaker apparently had issues with the power port coming loose. To allay your concerns, the company has offered a one year warranty for the Mighty speaker, and promises that its new 3.5mm charging port is much sturdier.
Features for the speaker include an onboard microphone for fielding phone calls, a 6 hour max rechargeable battery, and a waterproof control panel for play/pause, volume, calling up Siri, and song search. The speaker also comes in a variety of colors, including red, orange, gold, and blue. Morrison doesn’t provide any audio specs, but we’re going to go out on a limb right now and guess the Mighty doesn’t sound fantastic. Still, for $40, its not all that much of an investment, and no doubt outdoes your phone’s awful on-board speaker set.
