Apple is adding a simple feature iPhones have needed for years

Apple’s next iOS update isn’t chasing flashy features. Instead, it’s fixing the little annoyances that somehow still exist in 2026. And this one? It’s one of those “why wasn’t this always there?” kind of changes.

Apple is finally adding undo and redo to the Home Screen

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is testing undo and redo buttons for Home Screen customization in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.

The idea is simple. When rearranging apps, widgets, or layouts, users will be able to quickly reverse or reapply changes, something that’s been oddly missing despite years of Home Screen customization updates. Right now, one wrong move often means manually fixing everything again, which isn’t exactly fun.

This tweak is expected to appear in the same edit menu that pops up when long-pressing the Home Screen. So instead of committing to every change instantly, users get a safety net. It’s something that feels long overdue, especially on an iPad, where layouts can get messy fast.

A small change that says a lot about iOS 27

On paper, this isn’t a headline-grabbing feature. But it fits perfectly with what iOS 27 is shaping up to be: a refinement-first update rather than a flashy overhaul. Reports suggest Apple is intentionally dialing things back this year, focusing more on stability and polishing the experience instead of introducing big, attention-grabbing features.

In fact, iOS 27 has been described as a “Snow Leopard-style” update, meaning Apple is prioritizing performance, efficiency, and bug fixes over new features. The company is reportedly cleaning up old code, improving responsiveness, and even targeting better battery life across devices.

That also explains these smaller quality-of-life tweaks. And honestly, that might be exactly what iOS needs right now. After a big visual overhaul in iOS 26, a cleanup year makes sense. Because sometimes, the best updates aren’t the ones that add more — they’re the ones that quietly make everything work better.

Siri running on iPhone

Siri has been the punchline of the AI assistant world for years. While it was one of the first voice assistants to launch, it has lagged behind the competition for a while now. With the launch of agentic AI assistants, the gap has only become wider, and a string of upgrade delays has only worsened the situation.

While Google's Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude kept getting smarter, Apple's virtual assistant stayed stuck in 2011. But if fresh reports are anything to go by, Siri's woes are about to end soon. The impending iOS 27 update might bring the biggest Siri overhaul in the assistant's history.
