Giphy Cam now lets you create shareable Snapchat-style GIFs in augmented reality

Add as a preferred source on Google

The Giphy Cam is bringing you into the world of the GIF. That’s right, the Giphy Cam will now include stickers that place animations next to real-life footage of you, the user, kind of like Pokémon Go.

Using the new app, which is available on iOS and is now on version 2.5, you’ll be able to do things like save the loops you’re created and share them with your friends through a range of social media platforms and service — like Google Hangouts, Instagram, and so on, according to a report from Mashable.

The stickers themselves, according to a report from Mashable, occupy a 3D space — which means that they can zoom and rotate with the user’s movements.

This kind of augmented reality is only likely to continue in its popularity over the next few years. As shown a report from Mashable, users will have access to stickers like a mustache sticker, which will follow the user’s face around as it moves, or other stickers that look like they’re designed specifically for someone under the influence.

Giphy isn’t the first service to implement a layer of augmented reality on top of whatever the camera captures. Apart from Pokémon Go, Snapchat is also making waves in the AR world. Giphy, however, says that its offerings are different, because instead of disappearing, its GIFs and messages stay put, and Giphy suggests that with its features it’s “building a language.”

The new version of Giphy Cam also adds a few other new features — such as the ability to turn Apple’s Live Photos into GIFs and convert PNGs into stickers. Those new features aren’t necessarily easy to access, however. Giphy says it wants the app to have a “sense of surprise,” so if you want to create GIFs with Live Photos, you’re going to have to do some digging.

The new app is available for download starting today, so head to the App Store to download it for yourself.

iPhone 18 could get a RAM boost, but only a tiny sliver to run AI chores in iOS 27
A new report suggests the extra memory is aimed at keeping Apple Intelligence running smoothly.
Apple iPhone 17 back

Apple's next iPhone may not get a dramatic RAM upgrade, but it could receive just enough extra memory to keep its growing AI ambitions running smoothly. According to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to move from 8GB to 9GB of RAM, primarily to support deeper Apple Intelligence integration in iOS 27.

This free iPhone app uses soothing haptics to help you calm down
This iOS app skips accounts and subscriptions, relying on touch alone to help you relax.

Most mindfulness apps want you to create an account, buy subscription, and give a chunk of your attention before they help you unwind. Vän, a new iPhone app from Swiss indie developer Adrian Stanco, is built to be the opposite.

I found the app on Reddit, and the pitch alone made me curious enough to try it. Instead of sounds or endless scrolling, it leans entirely on haptics, the tiny vibrations your phone is already capable of producing. The result is a feeling of calm you get by simply holding your smartphone rather than watching the screen.
