Until today, Motorola had exclusive swam in the flip phone pool when it came to its foldable phone direction. While Samsung, Google, OnePlus and numerous others all have book-style foldables, Motorola had resisted the urge to join the form factor for more than half a decade.

This year though, at CES 2026, Motorola’s finally decided to dive head-first into the deeper waters of the traditional foldable phone with the introduction of Motorola Razr Fold.

This isn’t the handset’s full release though, with full specs still a few months away (Motorola has said it’ll be available in North America this summer), but here’s what we know for now.

Moto’s most premium device

The Razr Fold will be available in two colors, Pantone Blackened Blue and Pantone Lily White. We’re told the Blue features a woven vegan leather rear with a smooth, matte, durable finish.

Meanwhile the white is also woven vegan leather, but has a “smooth, modern luxury” feel – whatever that means. You’ll have to wait for our review to find out the difference between the two.

On the front there’s a 6.6-inch outer display. Unfold the device, and you’ll be treated to an 8.1-inch 2K, LTPO screen. There’s stylus support on the larger display, along with palm rejection technology to prevent unwanted input from your hand when using the stylus.

Round the back, a triple camera system consists of a 50MP Sony LYTIATM sensor, 50MP ultra-wide/macro, and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto. There’s also Dolby Vision support for video recording.

There are two more snappers on the Razr Fold too, with a 32MP external selfie camera and a 20MP internal camera, for when you want to take a selfie with the phone unfolded.

With the slimming down of foldables in the past year, the hope is Motorola delivers a suitably slim Razr Fold. It says the phone has a “slim silhouette”, but doesn’t provide exact dimensions.

Whether it’s able to challenge the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (4.2mm when unfolded) and Honor Magic V5 (4.2mm) remains to be seen.

Motorola says the Razr Fold is the most premium device in its portfolio, and claims everything on the phone is top of the line. There won’t be any other flagship (folding or non-folding) that’ll come in above it.

While pricing hasn’t been revealed just yet, this positioning suggests we’ll be looking at a lofty price tag – possibly similar to that of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

When quizzed about why Motorola waited this long to launch a book-style foldable, a spokesperson told Digital Trends the firm has been “looking at the fold space for many years, but won’t launch something if the consumer experience will be compromised in any way. The technology and the market is ready.”

The timing is certainly interesting, with Apple heavily tipped to launch the iPhone Fold later this year. Is Motorola trying to get in before the rush? Perhaps.

New Gigs app uses AI to organise your live music memories
You can now organise all your concert memories in one place
Gigs app

A new iPhone app called Gigs is aiming to change how music fans remember live events by turning scattered concert memories into a structured, searchable archive. Developed by indie creator Hidde van der Ploeg, the app uses artificial intelligence to organise past concert experiences into a personalised digital timeline.

The idea is simple: instead of letting ticket stubs, screenshots, and photos sit forgotten across devices, Gigs brings them together into one place - complete with details, stats, and memories tied to each event.

Samsung is already rethinking the TriFold, and this time, it’s starting with the hinge
The TriFold may have had a short shelf life, but its successor is already being engineered to last and to fold flatter.
Samsung Galaxy TriFold folding, TriFold Phone

The original Galaxy Z TriFold barely spent enough time in the market to warm pockets before Samsung pulled the plug on it. The company launched the phone on January 30, 2026, as the world’s first mass-market triple-fold smartphone sold in the United States, but it was discontinued just three months later.

However, Samsung hasn’t given up on the concept yet, as it's already engineering a sequel and starting from the hinge.

Google’s new desktop mode makes one thing clear: Samsung DeX was onto something
Android 16 finally brings a real desktop mode to Pixel phones, but Google’s long-awaited move mostly proves Samsung spent years getting the hard parts right
File, Webpage, Person

I’ve been waiting for Android to take desktop mode seriously for years. Back in 2019, I bought a OnePlus 7 Pro and wasted an embarrassing amount of time trying to brute-force its half-baked desktop mode into something useful.

The idea made perfect sense to me even then. Phones were already absurdly powerful, and the thought of carrying one real computer in my pocket felt less like science fiction and more like delayed common sense.
