As your computer’s nerve center, the motherboard spells your device’s overall performance, and it tells you the characteristics of your processor, memory, and storage, among others. To make sure it works just right, you need to ensure that the mobo socket is compatible with your computer’s components. Check out our list below to see a fitting mobo that will keep your computer up and running.

MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Motherboard

Best Overall

A motherboard that has LGA 1200 socket, support for DDR4 RAM, and M.2 SSD data transfer needs a good PCB design. The MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Motherboard is a rock-solid six-layer PCB with faster signal and power routing. It lays the foundation for a VRM design that can sustain a stable power supply to keep up with overclocking and utilized PCIe slot.

This mobo also integrates a water-cooling system, and an aluminum extended heatsink cover to help dissipate heat. So, you won’t have to worry about CPU-intensive tasks going through the board.

Why we love it:

  • Core Boost technology helps sustain appropriate power supply for highly demanding computing
  • ASMedia 3241 chip-powered rear USB-C port can facilitate four times faster file transfer
  • Supports ultra-fast network connection with on-board 2.5G LAN and Wifi 6

ASRock B450M AMD Motherboard

Best Value

ASRock B450M AMD Motherboard is a suitable foundation for a compact PC build. It isn’t just space-saving but can also trim down your expenses. However, going for a smaller and cheaper one doesn’t mean you’re behind speed and functionality. It’s a decent build made of high-density glass fabric PCB with ASRock’s Full Spike protection for all USB, audio, and LAN ports.

This mobo also features Socket AM4 that accommodates Ryzen 2000, 3000, 4000 G-series, 5000, and 5000 G-Series. It also has an Ultra M.2 interface that helps guarantee fast and reliable SSD data transfer. It also supports DDR4 memory and has integrated AMD Radeon Vega graphics.

Why we love it:

  • AMD StoreMI technology can facilitate file transfer at a faster speed
  • Provides two PCIe slots for expanded functionality
  • Supports Realtek Gigabit LAN for reliable Ethernet network

ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming Motherboard

Best Cooling Technology

If you’re into intensive overclocking, one feature to look at a motherboard is the cooling system. The ASUS ROG Strix z490-E provides a wide array of cooling innovations that help ensure your mobo maintains a 5-Celsius delta. It balances cooling and noise reduction by decreasing fan speed, providing thermal pads, and a U-shaped heat pipe. The Dual M.2 slots also have heatsinks to enhance the cooling systems.

This gaming mobo also provides LGA 1200 socket to get the most performance of 10th-generation Intel Core processors. And to enhance your gaming experience, this mobo has SupremeFX S1220A codec, DTS Sound Unbound, and Sonic Studio III for a high-level audio output.

Why we love it:

  • U-shaped heat pipe helps the mobo’s VRM delivers power at an optimal supply
  • AI overclocking smart prediction can optimize voltage settings
  • Aura Sync RGB lighting helps create a style

GIGABYTE B450M DS3H Motherboard

Best Micro-ATX

A micro-ATX factor can provide you with an optimal choice for performance and value if you don’t want spare tires to sit in your mobo. The GIGABYTE B450M DS3H Motherboard provides an AM4 socket compatible with AMD’s first second-generation Ryzen. It also contains unbuffered non-ECC DDR4 memory, suitable for home PC builders.

This mobo also features AMD StoreMI technology for an innovative and faster file transfer. It also provides Smart Fan 5 to help prevent heat from overriding the performance of micro-components. It’s a more petite build but takes connectivity on a higher level with its six USB 3.1 ports and eight USB 2.0 ports.

Why we love it:

  • Made of glass fabric to help ensure thermoregulation and longer life span
  • Onboard DVI-D and HDMI ports support high-definition display
  • RGB Fusion provides seven colors for unique personalization

In choosing a motherboard, price and performance are not always in proportion. You won’t need expensive motherboards if they don’t provide the correct sockets and functionalities you need. Hardcore gamers and serious overclockers need expanded functionalities because they need them. These PC users have CPU-intensive demands in the games, video editing, or software they’re dealing with, and it’s essential to understand that these are way beyond the average home or office use. With the options in our list, we have rounded up motherboards that cater to both seasoned and DIY PC builders.
