If you have been following the development of Star Wars: Episode VII, then we have a rare treat for you: actual, confirmed news. Something substantial, in fact!

First, Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to start active production in May 2014 at London’s Pinewood Studios, according to Disney and Lucasfilm. In keeping with tradition, the first day of shooting will be documented, just as it was for the previous six episodes.

The second, and perhaps more notable, piece of information is that “Star Wars: Episode VII is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.” Also, the film will feature three new, young stars along with “some very familiar faces.”

That fits with what most expected in terms of the timeframe, but it is the first actual confirmation we’ve heard. Return of the Jedi was released in 1983, just over 30 years ago. With many of the original stars returning to step back into their legendary roles, the 30 year gap makes sense given how much the actual actors have aged.

Still no official word on casting yet, but with filming set to start in a matter of weeks, that should be coming soon. Girls star Adam Driver is said to be in talks to take on the role of the primary antagonist, and the role of one of the new, younger heroes is rumored to be down to one of five actors. Recent Oscar winner, 12 Years a Slave actor Lupita Nyong’o is also said to be in the running for one of the primary female leads.

Sixteen years ago, The Social Network turned the origin story of Facebook into one of the most acclaimed films of the century. Now, Aaron Sorkin is back, and this time he is writing and directing. Sony Pictures dropped the first full trailer for The Social Reckoning today, and it is exactly as intense as you would hope.

This is technically not a direct sequel but a companion piece, and it is focused on what happened after Facebook grew from a dorm room idea into a platform that reshaped the world, and not always for the better.
