Walmart’s Onn brand has added two new Android tablets for shoppers who want a capable device without spending iPad-level money. The latest lineup includes a compact 8.1-inch Core Tablet and a larger 13-inch Pro Tablet. Both tablets are built for everyday use, like video streaming, browsing, online classes, and light work.

What does the smaller Onn tablet offer?

The Onn 8.1-inch Core Tablet is the more portable option. It is designed for reading, streaming, browsing, video calls, and casual use at home or while traveling. Walmart is offering it in Silver, Pink, Navy, and Mocha, with an 8.1-inch IPS LCD display and a 1000 x 1524 resolution. The 3:2 aspect ratio gives the screen a taller layout, which is useful for reading articles, viewing documents, or scrolling through websites.

Walmart has also included a refresh rate of up to 90Hz, which should make swiping through apps and menus feel smoother than many basic tablets in this price range. Inside, it runs on a 2.4GHz octa-core processor paired with 6GB of RAM, and Android 16, giving it enough power for everyday multitasking, video apps, browser tabs, schoolwork, and casual games.

The tablet comes with 64GB of built-in eMMC storage, with the option to add more space through a microSD card. Walmart also claims up to 15 hours of battery life, although the listing does not specify the exact usage conditions behind that estimate. At around $138, it covers the basics expected from an affordable Android tablet, while adding a smoother display than many low-cost options.

Who is the 13-inch Pro Tablet for?

The larger Onn 13-inch Pro Tablet is meant for users who want more screen space for entertainment and daily use. Priced at $288, it features a 13-inch display with a 2400 x 1600 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, which should make scrolling, multitasking, reading documents, and light work feel more comfortable. Walmart has also added four speakers for fuller sound, plus an 8MP front camera for video calls and a 13MP rear camera for photos or document scans.

Inside, the tablet uses a MediaTek MT8775 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. That gives users plenty of room for apps, downloads, photos, offline videos, and work files. Like the smaller model, the 13-inch Pro also supports expandable storage via a microSD card. It runs Android 16 out of the box and comes bundled with a folio case and stylus, which makes the $288 package even more appealing. It can also be used as a secondary monitor for a PC or Mac, adding another useful productivity feature.

If you need a tablet for everyday use without spending too much, these new Onn models are worth a look. Both tablets are available online and at Walmart stores.

I have explained the benefits of using an e-ink device over physical books. They are easier to handle, can store your entire library for travel, let you buy books at lower prices, and make looking up words or taking notes effortless.

Another reason to get an e-ink tablet right now is that the e-reader market has never looked this good. There are now e-ink devices for practically every use case and budget, ranging from a pocket-friendly $69 to $600 and beyond.

I gave up physical books and my reading life has never been better
Physical books are great, but e-readers are just better. There, I said it.
supernote and book in hand

If you are a book purist, you might scoff when I recommend an e-reader instead of buying physical books, and I won't blame you. The allure of the smell of pages, the weight of the book in my hands, the whole ritual, is hard to resist.

However, if you allow me some leeway to convince you, there’s a strong argument to be made against physical books and in favor of using e-readers. So let me make the case for e-readers, because once you understand what you've been missing, it's hard to go back.
