It looks like we get an early peek under the wrapping of one of our Geneva Auto Show presents. McLaren has teased us with videos of its upcoming 675 “longtail” sports car, but a recently leaked image gives us the best view of this devilish four-wheeled monster from Woking.
Devilish in that the 675LT will have an output of 666 horsepower from its 3.8-liter twin turbo V8, topping the range of McLaren’s “super series” that includes the 650S and the Asia-exclusive 625C. The 675LT will also put 516 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch, if the transmission from the 650S carries over.
The leaked photo from Autogespot gives us the best shot of the eponymous long tail we’ve seen yet. McLaren has stated that the bodywork, which we have a better view of, will contribute a 40% improvement to the downforce of the vehicle. This and the increased power output is complemented by a bespoke titanium crossover exhaust system and a weight reduction that will make it the lightest of the super series cars.
This is the first car to carry the “longtail” name since its predecessor, the McLaren F1 GTR adopted it after extensively modifying its exterior in order to compete with cars like the Mercedes CLK GTR. While the current one won’t be a race car per se, it will be a more track focused alternative to the 650S.
Unless this leak spurs McLaren to open the information floodgates, we most likely won’t get more details until the car’s official unveiling at the Geneva Auto Show on March 3rd.
