With Injustice for all: Superman beats up Batman in gameplay footage of ‘Injustice 2’

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment recently released a new video showcasing the intense fighting gameplay in the upcoming game Injustice 2. The trailer was originally showcased by NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon during Saturday’s streaming session of the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League Season 3 Finals on Twitch. The clip showcased a number of heroes and villains such as Supergirl, Aquaman, and that crazy Gorilla Grodd.

“Build and power up the ultimate version of your favorite DC legends in Injustice 2,” the company teases. “With a massive selection of DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Injustice 2 allows you to personalize every iconic character with unique and powerful gear. Take control over how your favorite characters look, how they fight, and how they develop across a huge variety of game modes. This is your Legend. Your Journey. Your Injustice.”

While the full roster is unknown as of this article, Boon was caught wearing a T-shirt promoting the game that featured depictions of Harley Quinn’s hammer, Doctor Fate’s mask, Captain Cold’s gun, Superman’s shield logo, Aquaman’s staff head, Flash’s boot, Green Lantern’s power source, and more. The roster is supposedly larger than what was offered in the first 2013 installment, Injustice: Gods Among Us. And like the game before it, Injustice 2 will not feature the highly brutal fatalities NetherRealm is known for in its popular Mortal Kombat franchise.

Injustice 2 was actually revealed last week. Boon told the press that the new installment will introduce new features that will change the way fans of the fighting genre will play these type of games. “We’re always interested in pushing the genre forward and allowing players to customize and level-up their favorite DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains is a significant leap,” he said.

The game picks up where the original game left off, with Batman and his buddies trying to restore peace while they fight against supports of Superman’s regime. Meanwhile, a new threat arises that jeopardizes the Earth’s existence, throwing players across a number of “iconic” locations including Atlantis, Gotham City, Metropolis, and more. The game’s arenas have “evolved in scale” since the first installment, indicating that they’re bigger than what’s offered in the original, enabling larger-than-life showdowns.

What makes Injustice 2 more than just a superhero fighting game is that players can make their hero their own. Players can load up their hero or villain with unique, powerful gear that can be earned while playing. Thus, not only can players determine the look of their hero, but how they fight and develop across a number of game modes. Personalization was a major focus that NetherRealm wanted to achieve with this installment.

Boon said during Saturday’s Twitch reveal that E3 2016 attendees will get their hands on six characters (including Atrocitus, Batman, and Superman) playable across the three arenas mentioned above. In the gameplay footage, you’ll see Batman getting his bat-butt handed to him by Superman as the Man of Steel bashes him through the clouds. Grodd takes his primal frustrations out on Aquaman by smashing his opponent’s face into the floor. Ouch.

Injustice 2 is slated to hit the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in 2017. To celebrate the announcement, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment added Injustice 2 versions of Superman and Aquaman to the free mobile version of Injustice: Gods Among Us. These can be acquired through in-game Challenge Modes.

James Bond smirks in 007: First Light.

The James Bond gaming comeback just hit a speed bump. Six days before the May 27th release of 007 First Light, a Denuvo (a controversial anti-tamper software) DRM disclaimer quietly appeared on its Steam listing. Many fans who had pre-ordered the game found this reason enough to cancel.

This isn't an isolated incident. Publishers have made a habit of adding Denuvo close to launch. Crimson Desert did the same thing in March, giving players almost no warning, which led to significant backlash. IO Interactive is even worse, giving buyers only a six-day notice.
