Last March, we brought you the Lamborghini Veneno (picture above) a day before it was unveiled. Lamborghini only built three examples of the Veneno – a car with the body of a Batmobile and the powertrain of an Aventador.
Now, word has come by way of Car and Driver that Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has promised a roadster version of the Veneno is in the pipeline.
And what will this open-top hypercar be called? Why, the Veneno Roadster of course. Remember, Lamborghini is brilliant with powertrains and bodywork but not so great with the whole naming thing.
Lamborghini plans to build nine Veneno Roadsters, each costing around $4.4 million. For that money, buyers will get an open-top Veneno so exclusive that it may never be shown to the public. So if that doesn’t get your icy billionaire blood pumping, I don’t know what will.
Although it’s chopping the roof to make the Roadster, Lamborghini will be leaving the drivetrain in tact. The Roadster will be powered by the same 750 horsepower 6.5-liter V12 as the ‘standard’ Veneno, which is mated to a seven-speed ISR transmission. Power, of course, will be sent to all four wheels through a permanent all-wheel drive system.
At this point in the article, I usually give you my two cents on the car. No amount of cleverness, I am afraid, could even come close to the visual splendor that is the Veneno. Instead, I urge you to ogle it some more. That’s what I’ll be doing.
