WD Now Shipping 160 GB Mobile Drives

The new drives are using perpendicular magnetic (PMR) technology and incorporate a number of Western Digital features like WD Passport, quiet operations, high shock tolerance and low power consumption.

"The new WD Scorpio 160 GB drives deliver the high capacity that many mobile computing users demand with WD’s implementation of PMR technology, as well as exclusive features that result in meaningful end-user benefits," said Jody Bradshaw, WD’s senior director and general manager of notebook storage. "With the introduction of our latest-generation WD Scorpio drives, WD offers mobile computing and portable storage customers the same outstanding quality, reliability and performance that have already earned WD a leadership position in the desktop PC market."

The new Scorpio capacity points will range from 40 GB to 160GB in size and are now available on the company’s website. You can expect to pay around $179.99 for the 160 GB drive.

Apple’s big glassy software future now comes with a way to make it less glassy. In iOS 27, users can adjust the translucency of the Liquid Glass effect, while macOS Golden Gate adds its own Liquid Glass controls under System Settings.

Liquid Glass is still alive across Apple’s platforms, still shimmering through menus and panels, still doing the elegant UI trick Apple clearly likes. The big visual bet has already earned a dimmer switch. After a year of treating translucency like the obvious next step, WWDC’s most revealing design update may be the one that lets people dial it back.
