Windows 11 finally fixes last light themes in File Explorer dark mode

File Explorer’s dialogs now match the theme, from progress bars to replace-or-skip prompts.

What’s happened? Microsoft’s newest Dev Channel drop, a Windows 11 Insider Preview, closes one of dark mode’s most obvious gaps. File Explorer’s action and error dialogs finally honor your theme, so those bright copy and delete pop-ups stop blasting your eyes at night. It’s a small tweak, but it hits the places you click all day.

  • Copy, move, and delete dialogs now render in dark mode in both default and expanded states, so the entire flow feels visually consistent.
  • Progress indicators, including bars and chart views, are in dark mode too, making long transfers easier to track without the glare.
  • Confirmation prompts like skip, override, and file selection, plus multiple confirmation and error dialogs, are all aligned to dark mode for fewer visual flashes and a cleaner look.

This is important because: Consistency matters, and one light dialog can feel like a flashbang. It chips away at the sense that Windows is a coherent system. This cleanup lowers eye strain and makes the OS feel more intentional.

  • It tackles real pain points, the copy, move, delete, and error flows that power users hit constantly, removing the last bright flashes that break immersion.
  • It signals ongoing investment in design, the kind of work that makes Windows 11 feel intentional instead of a mix of old and new parts.

Why should I care? If you constantly use File Explorer, you see these dialogs all the time. The experience feels calmer, especially on OLED laptops or in dim rooms.

  • Nighttime use is easier on the eyes, with fewer light surprises, and themed progress bars and charts make long moves simpler to track.
  • Power users get a smoother rhythm when batch copying or cleaning folders.
  • It is one more step toward an OS that looks consistent.

Okay, so what’s next? This lands in the Dev Channel first, so Microsoft will watch feedback and fix rough spots. If it holds up, the changes should move to public builds through Windows Update. Expect a few more small cleanups in other older dialogs too.

  • Install Build 26220.6772 via Windows Update if you are in the Dev Channel, then report any bugs in the Feedback Hub.
  • Microsoft will tweak visuals and behavior based on telemetry and bug reports from Insiders.
  • If testing goes smoothly, the dark mode improvements should reach the stable release in an upcoming Windows 11 update.

AI may have just won a literary prize. My heart weeps seeing it poison our love for books.

I had a hard time processing this news. As someone who has been deeply in love with stories since childhood and who grew up on the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, Terry Pratchett, J.R.R. Tolkien, and other such venerable authors, seeing an AI-written story win a prestigious writing award is hard to digest.

If you are unaware, the winners for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize for 2026 were announced, and three of the five winning regional stories have been found to be entirely or partially written by AI. Or at least that seems to be the consensus among readers. As a reader and an amateur fiction writer, this hurt me deeper than any other tale of AI corroding our lives.

Canva and Adobe are coming to Gemini, and they want to make everything chatty
Adobe and Canva are plugging into Google’s assistant, betting that creative work starts with a prompt, not an app icon
Art, Collage, Photography

Canva and Adobe are moving deeper into Google Gemini, giving the assistant a bigger role before users ever open a design app.

Adobe says its "Adobe for creativity" connector is coming to Gemini in the coming weeks, giving users a way to describe tasks and send them through Adobe tools for imaging, design, and video. Canva is already rolling out its Connected App for Gemini in select English-language markets, with full availability coming soon.

AI can pass the Turing Test in live chats and appear more human than us. I am spooked now
UC San Diego researchers found GPT-4.5 was judged human 73% of the time in live conversations

AI can pass the Turing Test in live chats, and the latest result lands with a chill. In a UC San Diego study, GPT-4.5 outperformed real participants at convincing judges there was a person on the other side.

The setup was harder to shrug off than a standard benchmark. Judges reacted to real-time exchanges rather than static prompts, then made a fast call based on conversation alone.
