Assassin’s Creed franchise could be getting annual release

Assassin's CreedRight on the heels of today’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood release come claims that Ubisoft wants to make the popular video game franchise a yearly release. CEO Yves Guillemot has teased there will be “something around Assassin’s” to look forward to in 2011, and Kotaku asserts that the company is looking at an annual release schedule for the game.

“We want to come out every year with three or four major brands that will deliver a high level of profitability,” Guilletmot told investors last night. Clearly, Assassin’s Creed is one of those brands, selling more than 19 million copies.  In the company’s earnings report and to GamePro, executives revealed they expect to earn $707 million in sales this coming quarter. Thanks in part to Brotherhood’s release, as the game’s pre-order sales were record-breaking for Ubisoft.

At the same meeting, CFO Alain Martinez gave even more hope to Assassin’s fans, saying, “Maybe after Christmas in January we’ll be able to talk about what kind of product we have.” Brotherhood is being released this week – could it be that Ubisoft will deliver another game in the next few months? With the incredible success of Assassin’s Creed II and the preliminary popularity of Brotherhood, it’s not a bad move for the company to pin its focus on the franchise.

Still, Guilletmot wouldn’t commit to an Assassin’s Creed 2011 release, so just try and enjoy Brotherhood’s Tuesday release while you wait for the chance to pre-order its successor.
