Ezio Auditore might finally be returning to Assassin’s Creed. And honestly, Ubisoft knows exactly what it’s doing by pulling that nostalgia trigger.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe leaks hint at Ezio’s return
A fresh wave of Assassin’s Creed Hexe leaks suggests Ubisoft could be bringing back the franchise’s most iconic protagonist, Ezio Auditore, in some form. According to reports from leakers Rogue and j0nathan, Hexe’s main protagonist is reportedly named Anika, with “Elsa” previously being used as a placeholder during development. More importantly, the leaks claim Anika is a descendant of Claudia Auditore, Ezio’s sister.

And yes, that connection apparently goes even further. The reports claim Ezio himself may appear in the game as an older mentor figure guiding Anika throughout the story. Leaked dialogue reportedly includes lines like “Come. Leap with me. One last time for an old man,” which is enough to instantly send longtime Assassin’s Creed fans into emotional damage territory.
The rumored setting also sounds wildly different from recent entries. Hexe is expected to take place during the German witch trials, with a darker, more horror-inspired tone focused on fear, persecution, alchemy, and psychological tension rather than massive open-world RPG spectacle. Leaks point toward Würzburg being one of the primary locations, with the story heavily leaning into themes of superstition and paranoia, where villagers reportedly hunt down anyone suspected of witchcraft.

There are also reports of stealth-focused gameplay changes, denser forests with unlockable tree-to-tree traversal, harsher NPC suspicion systems, and ritual-based missions tied to witchcraft investigations. Some leaked dialogue even references recovering stolen relics, blood pacts, and searching ritual sites, while NPCs dynamically react to suspicious behavior much faster than in previous Assassin’s Creed games.
I genuinely cannot wait to see Ezio back again
For longtime Assassin’s Creed fans, Ezio Auditore is not just another protagonist. He is the Assassin. Introduced in Assassin’s Creed II, Ezio quickly became the face of the franchise thanks to his charisma, emotional story arc, and growth from a reckless young nobleman into a legendary Master Assassin across three full games. Even today, many fans still consider the Ezio trilogy the peak of Assassin’s Creed storytelling, which is exactly why rumors of his return in Hexe are creating so much excitement online.

What makes this leak especially interesting is that Hexe reportedly will not just throw Ezio in for cheap nostalgia. Instead, he may appear as an older mentor figure tied to protagonist Anika through the Auditore bloodline, potentially guiding her through visions, memories, or some form of Isu-related connection. Pair that with Hexe’s darker witch-trial setting and horror-inspired tone, and suddenly this feels less like a simple cameo and more like Ubisoft trying to recapture some of the emotional magic that made fans fall in love with Assassin’s Creed in the first place.
