Just when you thought video game franchises couldn’t get any sillier…they get sillier. And sometimes silly exactly what makes a game fun. The Lego Group is teaming up with MTV’s Harmonix along with Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games to create Lego Rock Band, a new family-friendly rhythm game that combines the awesomeness of everyone’s favorite multi-purpose plastic bricks with the sheer power of rock and roll…or something. The title will be available for a broad gamut of gaming systems—including the Xbox 360, playStation 3, and Wii, along with a version for the Nintendo DS—and should ship just in time for the end-of-year holiday buying season.

Rock Band is a social game experience that crosses every generation and every genre of rock,” said MTV Games senior VP Bob Picunko, in a statement. “Harmonix and MTV Games are big fans of the Lego game franchise and excited to work with TT Games to develop a new take on Rock Band that focuses on great music and Lego humor that’s fun for the whole family.”

Lego Rock Band will feature multiplayer support, and enable players to build their careers as they start out in local venues, progress to being a stadium act, and then take their tunes to “fantasy locations” around the universe. Players will be able to snap together their own Rock Band styles, and customize their gear, management roadies, and crew. Lego Rock Band will support Rock Band instruments and compatible game controllers.

The game’s soundtrack will feature “chart-topping” songs that are suitable for younger audiences, including tracks from Good Charlotte, Pink, Blur, Carl Douglas (if you can’t guess what that tune is, you haven’t been paying attention to special compilations offered on TV infomercials), along with Europe’s “The Final Countdown.”

Lego Rock Band is in development at TT Games—the same folks who’ve handled the other Lego video games—in partnership with Harmonix; the Nintendo DS version is being developed with Backbone Entertainment. The companies haven’t released any pricing information.

GTA 6 may be far away, so Rockstar gave GTA 5 a fresh coat of paint
Grand Theft Auto 5

With Grand Theft Auto 6 now just months away, Rockstar Games is giving longtime Grand Theft Auto 5 players a reason to revisit Los Santos. The company has announced that owners of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of GTA 5 will receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game.

The move comes as Rockstar ramps up excitement for GTA 6, which is currently scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. Previously, upgrading from the older console versions to the current-generation release required a separate purchase, typically costing around $10. Beginning Thursday, however, eligible players will be able to move to the newer version at no additional cost.
