Leaked poster reveals new ‘Destiny’ expansion, ‘Rise of Iron’

Marketing materials have unveiled the next Destiny expansion a little ahead of schedule. The content drop will apparently be titled Rise of Iron, and looks set to be showcased by Bungie at E3 next month.

The news broke on Reddit late last night, as a photograph of a seemingly legitimate poster was published to the Destiny subreddit. Sources familiar with the studio’s plans for the franchise have since confirmed that the leaked materials are real, according to a report from Kotaku.

The title Rise of Iron will immediately call to mind the Iron Banner multiplayer event for anyone that’s spent some time with Destiny. This contest is overseen by Lord Saladin, who looks to be the character depicted on the leaked poster.

In Destiny lore, Lord Saladin is one of the Iron Lords, a group of legendary warriors who were responsible for defending The City long before the events depicted in the game unfold. Most of their number were thought to be dead, so it remains to be seen how they’ll play into the plot of Rise of Iron.

The expansion is expected to contain the Raid that was delayed from the spring update. This content has been in the works for some time, as it’s based on a mission that was intended to ship with 2015’s House of Wolves expansion.

Destiny players have been hungry for new content for quite some time now, so this confirmation that a new expansion is indeed on its way will be warmly received. It will certainly be more difficult to tempt players back now that The Division offers a similarly loot-centric take on the always-online shooter.

Rise of Iron is expected to launch this fall, but we’ll likely have to wait until E3 for confirmation on that release window.
