‘Destiny: Rise of Iron’ pre-orders can claim exclusive Gjallarhorn-inspired Sparrow

Destiny veterans who are first in line to play the upcoming Rise of Iron expansion will get a bonus vehicle as an exclusive pre-order incentive, developer Bungie announced this week as part of a livestreamed presentation.

Dubbed the “Gjallarwing” by its creators, the pre-order bonus merges the sleek style of the game’s Sparrow vehicles with unique designs and embellishments inspired by Destiny‘s legendary Gjallarhorn weapon.

Rise of Iron also marks the return of the Gjallarhorn itself. Initially one of Destiny‘s most iconic and prized weapons, the Gjallarhorn never received improvements to its stats or damage output in the months after its introduction, and new weapons quickly outpaced it in terms of usefulness, leading most players to drop it from their arsenal.

A new version of the Gjallarhorn is due to premiere in Destiny: Rise of Iron with a substantial redesign, upping its usefulness and reestablishing it as one of the game’s most powerful weapons. In addition to getting a bonus Gjallarhorn-themed Sparrow, players who pre-order the Rise of Iron expansion will also receive an exclusive black-and-silver skin for the redesigned Gjallarhorn, allowing them to show off their devotion to all things Destiny throughout the game’s many included multiplayer modes.

Bungie additionally revealed during this week’s live-streamed presentation that Rise of Iron will introduce new playable zones within the game’s Cosmodrome map, along with new missions and patrols. Destiny‘s level cap is also due for a bump, as Rise of Iron will increase the maximum possible light level to 355.

Released across multiple consoles in 2014, Destiny has since seen near-constant updates across all of its story and multiplayer missions, frequently rebalancing weapons and swapping out in-game objectives. Bungie recently revealed that it will drop support for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Destiny with the release of Rise of Iron, and will shift its development efforts to the Xbox One and PS4 editions in the months ahead.

Destiny: Rise of Iron premieres digitally for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on September 20.
