‘Destiny’ players can get a new gun from ‘Rise of Iron’ right now

Destiny players still need to wait another week and a half until the release of Rise of Iron — but Bungie has served up a sneak preview as part of a preparatory patch that was beamed out yesterday. While the update is largely concerned with laying groundwork for the expansion, it does present the opportunity to earn a new gun ahead of time.

One of the exotic weapons set to be introduced by Rise of Iron is now obtainable by all players, according to a report from Eurogamer. The Trespasser is a brand new sidearm, and it’s being reported that it is the most powerful weapon of this kind to be added to the game so far.

Rise of Iron will apparently buff sidearms considerably in an attempt to increase their popularity among players. This particular type of gun is expected to become 20 to 30 percent more powerful during PvE gameplay, and will also pack more of a punch in PvP activities.

The patch also allows engrams to be decrypted at light levels higher than 335, reflecting the fact that the level cap from The Taken King is being increased. Other tweaks made to prepare for Rise of Iron include interface changes to the game’s quest screen, and improved rewards for public events.

Yesterday’s update also contains much of the content set to be added to the game via Rise of Iron, which should help players to dive into the DLC straight away when it releases later this month. Of course, anyone that’s still gaming on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will be left out in the cold — Bungie is dropping support for legacy consoles with the launch of the game’s fourth expansion.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is scheduled to release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on September 20, 2016. The expansion’s new Raid, entitled Wrath of the Machines, will be available from September 23.
