A lapsed trademark signals the end of Star Wars 1313

Any hopes for a miraculous rebirth for the proposed Boba Fett game Star Wars 1313 appear to be dead, as the original trademark filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has now lapsed, according to GI.biz. A notice was sent in November regarding the imminent lapse, and then the trademark was “abandoned because no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued.”

The news isn’t particularly surprising following the closure of Star Wars 1313 developer LucasArts. Disney, the new owner of all things Star Wars, didn’t immediately cancel the game, which led some to believe there was still a chance. That chance didn’t last long though, and the game was soon officially cancelled.

Once Electronic Arts took over the licensing rights to all Star Wars games, a faint hope remained. The game was under development at the time of LucasArts’ closure, so there was a chance that EA would simply continue on. Financially it may have made sense; in theory EA would be able to simply pick up where LucasArts left off, bypassing some of the costly early stages of development. The lapsing of the trademark seems to put a final nail in the coffin though.

Alas poor Star Wars 1313, we hardly knew you.
