Capcom’s legendary defense attorney Phoenix Wright will return for another round of courtroom action in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — Spirit of Justice, a Nintendo 3DS sequel that launches in North America this fall.

Spirit of Justice will be available exclusively via the 3DS eShop starting in September.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice finds the returning series star journeying in the kingdom of Khura’in, a nation that has instituted lawyerless trials for suspected perpetrators of serious crimes. Khura’inese Royal Priestess Rayfa Padma Khura’in claims to be able to see into the past via divination seances, supposedly giving her insight into how crimes were committed. The process results in speedy trials that, by modern standards, aren’t entirely fair for suspected criminals.

Phoenix Wright will face a new series of challenges throughout, as he must sift through conflicting evidence while working within the bounds of Khura’inese law in order to prove his client’s innocence.

Keeping in line with series traditions, Spirit of Justice is a text-driven adventure game that takes place across a series of courtroom battles. During the course of the game, players must submit evidence, support their arguments, and seek out inconsistencies in witness testimony as each trial races toward a final verdict.

Spirit of Justice is the sixth entry in the core Phoenix Wright series, following up on 2013’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies for the Nintendo 3DS. The series has also seen multiple spinoffs over the last decade, including 2014’s franchise crossover Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

Like its predecessor Dual Destinies, Spirit of Justice will only be available via digital channels in North America and Europe. The series’ shift to a digital format in western territories resulted in fewer localizations for Ace Attorney games in recent years, leaving titles like Dai Gyakuten Saiban and Gyakuten Kenji 2 without English-language releases. Spirit of Justice‘s localization status was uncertain prior to this week’s unveiling of a worldwide release.
