‘Infamous: Second Son’ leads September’s free PlayStation Plus games

You are likely going to be spending the majority of your time in September leveling up your Guardian in Destiny 2, but if you are itching to take a break and play something else, you will have a few good options in September’s free PlayStation Plus games. A certain PlayStation-exclusive superhero series leads the pack, as well as a PlayStation VR title.

Beginning next Tuesday, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to grab Infamous: Second Son. The superhero sequel originally released in 2014 and protagonist Delsin Rowe’s multiple power sets give you several different ways to explore Seattle. The stand-alone expansion Infamous: First Light was previously available as a PlayStation Plus freebie back in 2015.

PlayStation 4 players will also be able to pick up the aerial combat game Strike Vector Ex, which was redesigned with the PlayStation 4’s control scheme in mind. The PlayStation 4 version released last August and critics praised its old-school shooter roots and multiplayer gameplay.

But wait, there is more! Buy Now owners will also get a freebie in September in the form of Rigs: Mechanized Combat League. The multiplayer competitive sport-shooter was released as a launch title with the headset last year, and it makes tremendous use of the technology. A fun single-player option will also help you get up to speed with the game’s controls as well as its many robotic Rigs. With the game releasing for free, it should also see an influx of new players who can compete against each other.

PlayStation 3 players will receive Truck Racer, which originally launched in 2014 and is also available on PC. Also available on PlayStation 3 is Handball 2016 — it appears Sony might be running out of freebies to give away with the aging platform.

Lastly, the Buy Now has not been forgotten. Indie hit Hatoful Boyfriend is coming to the handheld for free next month, as is We Are Doomed. The latter game is a twin-stick shooter also available on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. Both free games will also be free on PlayStation 4.

With Grand Theft Auto 6 now just months away, Rockstar Games is giving longtime Grand Theft Auto 5 players a reason to revisit Los Santos. The company has announced that owners of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of GTA 5 will receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game.

The move comes as Rockstar ramps up excitement for GTA 6, which is currently scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. Previously, upgrading from the older console versions to the current-generation release required a separate purchase, typically costing around $10. Beginning Thursday, however, eligible players will be able to move to the newer version at no additional cost.

Rockstar Games has finally revealed when players will be able to secure their copy of Grand Theft Auto 6. In a post published on X, the studio confirmed that GTA 6 pre-orders will open on June 25, giving fans their first official date after months of rumors and retailer leaks.

The announcement arrives just over four months before the game's scheduled launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. So far, two trailers of the game have been released, giving us a glimpse at the protagonists Jason and Lucia and the modern-day Vice City setting.

Some of the most beloved entries in the Call of Duty franchise are finally making their way to modern PlayStation hardware in July. Treyarch has officially confirmed that the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are being ported by Iron Galaxy, bringing the classic shooters to a new generation of PlayStation players.

While Treyarch has not explicitly confirmed the target platforms, multiple reports and backend discoveries suggest the games are being prepared as native PlayStation 4 releases that will also be playable on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility.
