Ubisoft’s upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been delayed from its January 21 release date and will now launch on March 18.

The game’s dev team put out a statement announcing the delay. While it doesn’t cite a specific reason for the date change, it implies that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may be a factor.

“2020 has been a year like no other,” the statement says. “Today, we wanted to let you know that we are taking additional time to work on the game … Thank you for your patience and continued support for Prince of Persia and we hope you stay safe and healthy this holiday season.”

First announced at Ubisoft’s September Forward livestream with its original January release date, the remake gives the 2003 classic a visual overhaul and new features, such as a targeting system.

COVID-19 has reshuffled gaming plans throughout 2020 and beyond and Ubisoft has been hit particularly hard. The company delayed Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine and Far Cry 6 to sometime past its first financial quarter in 2021. Neither game has received an official release date.

Just yesterday, the studio announced a new January release date for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game — Complete Edition, pushing it out of its holiday 2020 release window. On top of that, Watch Dogs: Legion’s online mode was recently pushed to 2021 so the studio could fix its outstanding bugs.

Looking ahead to the rest of Ubisoft’s 2021 slate, Riders Republic is the next game to watch out for. The sports title is currently scheduled to launch on February 25.
